The goal of cervical screening tests is to find pre-cancers when it is more treatable and curable.
Regular screening can help prevent cervical cancers and save lives. Not everyone with HPV will get cervical cancer but most cases are caused by HPV.
There are several cervical screening tests. These include;
The HPV test
Liquid Based Cytology (LBC)
The Pap test
Visual Inspection with Acetic acid (VIA). VIA is ideal for low resource settings where the other types of cervical screening tests are unavailable.
For women at average risk, cervical screening starts at age 25 up to 65.
Women who have gotten the HPV vaccine should follow the same screening plan.
