Every Month is Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Breast cancer awareness should not be limited to October. Because breast cancer happens everyday.

At CancerAware, we are on a year-round mission to educate and empower every woman in Nigeria about early detection and risk reduction. Even though Breast Cancer Awareness Month is over, our commitment remains strong. Let's make every month a month of awareness and support. Here are three key steps to keep in mind:

  • Regular Health Checks:

Ladies, don't forget your monthly Breast Self Examinations (at least once a month). If anything seems unusual, consult a doctor immediately.

If you're 40 and above, yearly mammograms are crucial. For women with dense breasts, consider breast ultrasounds and MRIs. If you are below 40, get yearly breast ultrasounds.

If you have a family history of breast cancer, talk to your doctor about personalized breast screening plans. And everyone, men and women alike must make a habit of getting yearly health check-ups.

  • Healthy Lifestyle Habits:

Incorporate regular physical activity into your routine.

Aim for at least 5 portions of fruits and vegetables a day.

If you smoke, commit to quitting. Also be aware that even low alcohol consumption raises your breast cancer risk. So, commit to quitting alcohol too.

Reduce your intake of red meat and eliminate processed meat from your diet.

If you're using hormonal contraceptives, consult your doctor about safer, non-hormonal family planning methods.

Prioritize non-toxic skincare and household products.

Know your family health history and take proactive steps based on the information you gather.

  • Spread the Word:

Share the crucial message of early detection with your friends, family, and contacts. You might just save a life.

Remember, early detection coupled with timely and appropriate treatment can make a world of difference when it comes to cancer.

Let's make every day an opportunity to raise awareness and support one another. Together, we can make a positive impact on breast health and help women across Nigeria. Have a wonderful November and keep the awareness flame alive.
